New Web Site Celebrates HPER’s Sixtieth Anniversary
September 15, 2006
What better way to mark a school’s sixtieth anniversary than with a new and cutting-edge Web site? That’s how the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) wanted to celebrate, and we at the IU Office of Creative Services were happy to oblige.
Designed to serve as a communication and marketing tool for prospective students as well as Indiana University colleagues and the world, the recently launched site highlights HPER as a world leader by focusing on its faculty, departments, research, and service delivery. Established in 1946 as the first school of its kind in the United States, HPER has more than 2,500 students and nearly 17,000 alumni, with undergraduate and advanced degree programs in Applied Health Science, Kinesiology, and Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies.
The Creative Services new media team worked closely with HPER client Steve Wolter to implement the nearly 1,000-page site, from designing a new look and feel to coordinating photography and creating new information architecture with fresh content. Special site features include nearly 100 faculty profiles and photos, a virtual tour of HPER facilities, and a virtual timeline of HPER history.
“The launching of this new Web site is an important event in the life of the school and part of our sixtieth anniversary celebration,” says David L. Gallahue, HPER dean. “It will be our message to the external world for years to come and is something in which we can all take great pride.”
