New Media Team Launches Three More Kelley Web Sites
March 28, 2008
It began as a friendly partnership, but now it’s official. The Office of Creative Services and the Kelley School of Business are in a long-term relationship. The pair continues to collaborate to market Kelley as a top-notch business school. Since December, Creative Services has launched three more Web sites that convey the school’s excellence: Operations and Decision Technologies, Kelley Department of Accounting, and Kelley News and Media.
For the most recent Web sites, the Creative Services new media team applied the same bold design it created for the other Kelley sites: Kelley’s primary Web site, Information Systems Graduate Programs, Graduate Accounting Programs, and the Department of Marketing.
Although the design and structure are consistent for all Kelley Web sites, each department has its own message. Because there are several academic areas within Operations and Decision Technologies (ODT), we used rotating alumni feature stories to grab readers’ attention and explain each area. The eye-catching colors appeal to visitors. All feature story subjects were photographed at their workplaces, giving visitors a glimpse of the possibilities for students who pursue careers in ODT. “Through the stories of various ODT alumni, this Web site provides an explanation of the degrees offered, but in a colorful way that prospective and current students can relate to,” says Heather Beery, information architect.
For the Department of Accounting Web site, our challenge was to launch a Web site as quickly as possible. Creative Services staff members refined the existing content and structure within two months. Now in the second stage of the project, we’re developing more content to express the Department of Accounting’s distinctive message.
The Kelley News and Media site’s design matches the University Communications news site, IU News Room. Each day it directs visitors to one leading news story and other important events. The content management system, Copenhagen, enables Kelley to gather relevant new stories. When University Communications publishes a news story that relates to Kelley, the story and its accompanying photos are published automatically to the Kelley News and Media site. Kelley staff members can also use the site to publish their own news items, photos, and videos.
The Kelley News and Media Web site features a collection of articles from national publications such as Fortune and Inside INdiana Business to keep students, faculty, and alumni aware of the latest business news. In addition to traditional news stories, the site offers multimedia, RSS feeds, and subscriptions. To stay in touch with Kelley, visitors can subscribe to any of Kelley’s four publications: Kelley NewsWire, Kelley Magazine, Business Horizons, and Thought Leadership.
Expect this relationship to produce more quality work from Creative Services. Fortunately, a break-up is nowhere in sight. Plans are underway for more Web site redesigns.
