New Life Sciences Web Site Launches
March 9, 2007
On January 24, the IU Office of Creative Services and the IU Office of University Marketing launched a new life sciences Web site that explains the Indiana Life Sciences Initiative, IU’s plan to expand life sciences research throughout the state.
The interactive, multimedia site provides a detailed look at the importance of life sciences research to the lives of Hoosiers and explains its impact on the state’s economy.
The site was launched in part to explain IU’s request for funding from the Indiana General Assembly to support for life sciences efforts at all of the state’s research universities. State funding would enable Indiana’s universities to attract grants to recruit hundreds of top scientists, generating research that would result in new drugs, products, business, jobs, and health care options.
Topics covered on the Web site include the health and economic benefits of the life sciences across the state, IU's collaborative work with Indiana's other universities, and IU's commitment to build on its expertise and education and research resources for the benefit of all Hoosiers. The site also offers visitors several ways to get involved, from sharing stories about how life sciences research has affected their lives to sending letters of support to their legislators.
The Web site and accompanying marketing campaign have already made an impact. On February 28, the Indiana Senate approved a plan to lease the state’s lottery, with $600 million going toward the Indiana Life Sciences fund. Under the proposed plan, public and private universities could apply for research grants. The bill will now move to the Indiana House for consideration.
