Web site named an official honoree in the 2006 Webby Awards

April 19, 2006

We'd like to thank the Academy. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, that is.

There were no red carpets, no designer gowns, and no Jack Nicholson smirking in the front row, but the 10th annual Webby Awards were thrilling nonetheless for the Indiana University Office of Creative Services.

The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences named our National Science Olympiad Web site an official honoree of the 10th Annual Webby Awards. Considered the Oscars of the Internet, Webby Awards are the leading international awards honoring excellence in Web design, creativity, usability, and functionality. Of the nearly 6,000 entries submitted to the 2006 Webby Awards, fewer than 20 percent were distinguished as official honorees.

The site was launched last year to promote the 2006 National Science Olympiad taking place at Indiana University Bloomington this May. Kyle Haskins, Creative Services interactive art director, created the giant robot and 1950s science fiction theme for the design of the site. Working with a freelance illustrator, he executed the design of the unique images and programmed a dozen Flash animations to produce a fun and interactive site targeting middle school and high school students.

Kyle's five word acceptance speech? "My friends are all robots."
