CHALLENGE

Transform an outdated display into a Web site that celebrates African American history at IU. The site was to be used as a part of the university's booth at Indiana Black Expo and, after Black Expo is over, as an ongoing online resource.

SOLUTION

The award-winning display unit we'd created nearly a decade ago had involved extensive photo and archival research. We reinterpreted the static timeline display unit, selecting individuals who were agents of change. As our unifying concept, we used key action words to describe each historical or current figure; those key words linked to biographies of the individuals. A bright, dynamic palette and inspirational quotes by African American leaders complete the dynamic, emotional impact of this site.
