Philanthropy Matters Magazine
CLIENT
Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University
CHALLENGE
To update the design of
Philanthropy Matters magazine to make the magazine a better fit with the organization’s prestigious image.
SOLUTION
We’d been working with the Center on Philanthropy and an outside designer on
Philanthropy Matters for eight years, helping the Center with its evolution from a one-color newsletter to a high-profile, glossy feature magazine. When the client said it was time for a design overhaul, we had three of our staff art directors present design options, and the client chose this design created by Creative Services art director Dennis Hill. The magazine’s target audience is anyone who is a practitioner, donor, or academic working in philanthropy, and the content (which is written by Creative Services staff writers) presents Center research in an accessible, news-you-can-use manner. The key to our redesign was using photography and photo illustrations that we creatively concepted with the client and custom art-directed for the magazine. The legibility of the inside layout was also opened up with more white space and a shift to full-color printing throughout.
