New Workshop for Fall 2007

Just My Type: An Introduction to Creative Typography

Register online now through University Human Resources.

Typography—the art of selecting and arranging type—is an essential part of any publication or Web site. When done well, it can greatly enhance the beauty and effectiveness of your communications. Yet most people stick to the same fonts and familiar ways of using type rather than allowing themselves to invent and explore.

Start your exploration of typography this fall with the IU Office of Creative Services as your guide. Part lecture, part discussion, and full of examples, Just My Type will give you the information and advice you need to make fantastic type choices for your communications.

Topics include an overview of type styles, how to select type based on your message and audience, type as a visual element, and how to use type effectively in print and on the Web. Participants are encouraged to bring examples of typography they like, as well as a sense of humor.

Choose from two identical sessions at IU Bloomington. Enrollment is limited to 20 for each session.

  • Session 1: Tuesday, October 16, 2007, 1:30–4:30 p.m., Von Lee 200
  • Session 2: Tuesday, November 6, 2007, 1:30–4:30 p.m., Von Lee 200

Location and Parking

The Von Lee is on the west side of IU Bloomington, near the intersection of Indiana and Kirkwood Avenues. IU Creative Services is on the second and third floors.

Our main entrance, which offers access to the elevator, is on the north side of the building, facing the parking lot. You can also enter from Kirkwood Avenue. Room 200 is the large conference room on the second floor.

The Poplars parking garage (on the corner of Dunn and Sixth Streets) and several IU parking lots (for A and C permits) are within walking distance of the Von Lee. We recommend arriving early to find a space.
